Global Impact Lab field research with mothers and children in a community health setting

Global Impact Lab

Where a Child is Born Should Not Determine Their Future.

The Global Impact Lab — Improving Maternal, Perinatal, and Child Health — was built on that belief.

Our Origin

How the Lab Began

The idea for the Global Impact Lab grew out of experiences working with mothers, newborns, and children in settings where geography and resources too often determine health outcomes. Early training in global health revealed both the enormous burden of preventable maternal and child mortality — and the remarkable impact that evidence-based interventions can have when developed in partnership with the communities they serve.

What Guides Us

Key Principles

01

Maternal Health Shapes a Child’s Future

A mother’s health during pregnancy influences not only birth outcomes, but also her child’s health and development across the life course.

02

The First Days Shape a Lifetime

For vulnerable preterm infants, the care provided in the first days after birth can shape survival, growth, and development for years to come.

03

Science Must Be Scalable

Scientific discovery achieves its greatest impact when it leads to solutions that are practical, affordable, and feasible in the settings where they are needed most.

Why We Exist

Our Mission

The Global Impact Lab brings these areas together under a common mission: to develop and evaluate innovative, practical, and scalable strategies that improve outcomes for pregnant individuals and their children worldwide — starting in pregnancy and continuing through infancy and childhood.
